What exactly is a millennial. A Millennial is a person that was born between 1980 and 2000. A lot is said about them online both good and bad. However, regardless of how you feel about them they’re here to stay.
Talking about Millennials can be a sensitive and diverse subject. it’s almost as bad as talking about politics or religion. However, whether you love them or you hate them they are a huge part of mainstream society, and they are our future leaders.
In this article we address seven points that you may want to consider when you are thinking about millennium’s being part of the future of your business. Let’s take a look at these 7 points together and see why Millennials may be the business foundation you have been looking for.
What are their strengths?
Collaborative
Although individuality is very important to Millennials, they know how to work in a team environment very well. Through their education and community involvement they have learned to work together as a group to achieve a single goal. So being part of a team that stresses working together as a single unit and at the same time glorifying individuality and success, millennials can be an important part of a collaborative team.
Education
The education system that Millennials grew up in is far more advanced and has more information than the education system of their predecessors. School programs were more advanced, the internet was available, technology was more readily available and the use of these tools helped them gain greater knowledge. They have also grown up in a far more competitive world than their predecessors. Then had to learn to use this technology and new information to advance themselves in their educational careers. Now they’re using the same skills and abilities in advancing their business careers. What they are able to contribute to a team is incredible and something to consider closely.
Entrepreneurship-minded
Previous generations were taught to go to work for a company, work for that company for most of your life, retire from that company and enjoy the few years you have left with whatever you saved. Millennials were trained very differently. 70% of Millennials are working independently. They are far more open to the concept of being self-employed and not needing to work inside of a traditional company. In a network marketing environment this makes it a far more palatable concept for them to absorb and excel within this work environment.
Multi-taskers/Adaptable
The Millennials era has had overwhelming advancement in technology. Millennials grew up in that environment and don’t know anything different. This means that technology is not something new to learn but a part of daily life, and constantly changing technology is not confusing but exciting. This makes for more adaptable individuals and helps them to be greater multitaskers. Millennials can communicate with friends over social media, hold a face-to-face conversation, while watching a YouTube video. In network marketing adaptability and multitasking is essential. Millennials have literally been bred for this environment.
Open-minded/Innovative
Previous generations were taught a brick-and-mortar mentality “What we know is what we know”. Millennials have not been trained to think this way. They have been trained to believe that what we know today maybe something different tomorrow. This means that they are adaptable thinkers. They realize that new concepts and new ideas are constantly evolving. They realize that new information, new technologies and new abilities are always added into the mix and they need to stay on top of it and adapt.
Tech-savvy
Millennials grew up in technology. I myself am not a millennial I remember having a rotary dial phone. When I was a kid if I wanted to talk to my friend I had to walk to his house and ask his mom if he could come outside. Millennials have grown up with cell phones, emails, internet, social media, and other forms of technology and communication. Incorporating this into their business is normal to them as breathing and walking down the street.
Passionate/Purpose Driven
Millennials are more passionate and purpose driven than the previous generations. They’re less interested about the bottom dollar salary as they are interested in satisfaction in their job. They have more desires to live a fulfilling life now not in the future. Life quality is more essential to Millennials, not in retirement but today.
It’s not uncommon in today’s world for the previous generation to have problems with the Next Generation. In fact, that seems to be the normal for hundreds even thousands of years. But in our business world today we need to be adaptable. We need to accept the Next Generation. If you’re like me, you’re not a millennial and working in today’s environment is a challenge at times. There are new technologies and a whole new psychology in business. Having Millennials inside of your team maybe the very key to your success. It may be the guiding force that helps you make the transition in this modern working world. If you are a millennial, I applaud you for your abilities. You are the very future of our country and our world.
