WHEN SOMEONE QUITS THEIR JOB TODAY, they, usually say, “I’ve decided to look for better opportunity.” When somebody’s business fails, they say something like: “Yeah well, it just didn’t work out.”
When someone quits a Network Marketing program, this is what often is said; “I got burned!” or, “I should have trusted my instincts in the first place!” or, “It was a rip-off . . . I got scammed!”
What is it about people that say they got burned or scammed when they quit Network Marketing?
It seems that the vast majority, who say they got ripped-off, or burned, barely did anything besides placing an order each month anyway. Are they simply unwilling to take responsibility for their own laziness — or is there perhaps a bit more to it than that?
In most cases the problem often stems from the fact that most Network Marketers make their opportunity sound easier than it really is. Most Networkers don’t always tell the truth about the business!
You earn $1200/month working 60 hours a week. Then you see an ad that says:
Earn thousands fast. No Experience or selling needed!
So you go for it.
What you thought you heard: “This business is really easy. All you have to do is sign the distributor application, order $100 a month of product, and tell five of your friends! They sign up, and tell five friends, and then they tell five friends, and before you know it, you are driving the fancy car you’ve always dreamed of. You’ll be making thousands! It’s a ground floor opportunity. Don’t pass this up. Sign up right now!”
But what you didn’t think about is that you don’t like sales — never have and never will, (which is exactly what attracted you to the ad in the first place), so you feel burned once you realize the truth about the business opportunity.
You realize that there is a lot more to developing your business than simply signing yourself up, ordering $100 of product a month and telling five friends. You see that you also have to learn the business, get yourself trained, setup appointments, give presentations, make follow-up calls, and train others as well. You need to Work at it!
They didn’t tell me that I had to work hard too! Besides, working the 60-hour-a-week “regular” job this doesn’t give me any time to build his Networking business. Now I really feel burned!
Had I known the truth — up front — I never would have signed-up as a distributor, and spent $100 in the first place!
To cap it all, instead of signing up five out of five, which he was told would happen, you only manage to get two of the five to sign —your mother, and sister and they have no intentions of doing anything!
So you say: I just got burned!
It is no wonder that Network Marketing has a somewhat less-than-perfect image with people today! The only way that Network Marketing will gain a reputation of integrity, and credibility is to tell it as it is. Network Marketing — as with any other legitimate business —consists of investing time, energy, and effort, and the hard work of getting over the obstacles and disappointments you’ll encounter from time to time.
Network Marketing is a simple business when compared with traditional businesses, but it is not easy, work is involved.
Be truthful, and always mention things like hard work, persistence, and determination right up-front to your prospects. You’ll effectively diffuse the too-good-to-be-true syndrome that has many more people saying “No” to you, and at the same time, you’ll weed out those people looking for a free ride.
