How Do You Get Yourself Motivated?
EMOTIONS are powerful. They affect the way you think, and act. They can motivate you for both good and bad. At times, they may even seem to overwhelm you.
Behavioral scientists say that bad habits, like good ones, are learned, and developed over time. If that is correct, then bad habits can just as surely be unlearned! How? “Think about the benefits of breaking the old pattern,” say the authors of a book on stress management. Then, the author suggests making a list of how changing your behavior could motivate you to improve your life. Yes, focusing on the benefits of changing our negative behavior can motivate us to change.
You still may wander, why do people sign up, and then not take any actions to build their business opportunity or how do I get your people motivated?
Self-motivation is the only kind that works over the long haul, and the key to self-motivated Network Marketers is long term goals.
To think about:
Goals are a set of expectations a person has about what is showing up in his or her life.
Set realistic goals.
It is better to enjoy what your eyes see than to wander after one’s desires. So what is the point? A wise person does not let mere desires take the reins of his life, especially desires that may be unrealistic, or impossible to satisfy. Hence, clever advertising or easy credit does not seduce him. Instead, he learns to be content with what he can actually attain—“what [his] eyes see.”
If, however, the opposite is true, if reality does not measure up to your goals, the energy of self-motivation kicks in. That leads to acting on your determined goals.
In recent years, businesses worldwide have struggled with poor economic conditions. They must also cope with rapidly changing technology, and increased regional, and global competition. Employees may feel that resorting to dishonesty is the only way to meet performance goals set by owners, and managers.
When you have goals, your life has direction, and purpose. You are also more likely to avoid people, and situations that could hinder you from accomplishing what you’ve set out to do in your business in the first place.
Consider this:
Would you get into a taxi, and tell the driver to drive around the block repeatedly until his car ran out of fuel? That would be ridiculous as well as costly! Goals keep you from traveling in circles with your life. You have somewhere to go, and a plan of how to get there.
Rather than drift through life letting things happen to you, motivate yourself to run with certainty.
Try this:
When you have goals, your life has direction, and purpose. You’re also more likely to avoid people, and situations that could hinder you from accomplishing what you’ve set out to do.
First, clarify your values. You might try writing down every value that comes to your mind, such as family, friendship, hard work, education, accomplishment, money, happiness, marriage, kindness, physical health, and spiritual health. Then, ask yourself, ‘Which of these values are most important to me?’
To think about:
After that, consider all the goals that you would like to achieve in life. What is the difference between values, and goals? For the purpose of this discussion, we can say that values are ongoing, whereas goals can, at some point, be achieved and marked off as completed.
What goals might you set for yourself? Do you want to spend more time with your family? Find employment that is more suitable? Improve your skills in a favorite hobby? Find a new one? Develop a certain quality? Take a vacation? Read a book? Write a book? Grow my business opportunity?
Try this:
Next, decide which of these goals are most important to you. Make sure that they are compatible with your values. If, for instance, you set a goal of becoming extremely rich, you are likely setting yourself up for conflict, and perhaps even failure.
If your goals harmonize with your values, and you carry out the activities that contribute to achieving your goals, your life will take a unified direction. You will find yourself spending more time on what matters to you. Get motivated!
