Who wants to be sick? Especially when you own your own business— such as Network Marketing. It is an inconvenience and usually an expense. Not only do you feel bad when you are sick, you may not be able to do anything, such as go to work, or earn money, or look after your family. I’m sure that we have heard the expression “Prevention is better than a cure.”
OUR BODY IS A COMPLETE MIRACLE IN MOTION. For example, in the last 24 hours, your heart beat over 100,000 times, your blood traveled 168,000,000 miles, (270, 369, 790 kms) you breathed 23,000 times; your kidney filtered 42 gallons (158, 987 L) of liquid, you moved over 650 muscles; you exercised 7,000,000 brain cells. You are wonderfully made!
Due to modern medical advances, your body is going to last you longer than you ever dreamed possible.
The issue is not how long you will live, but the quality of your life during those years. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “The quality, not the longevity, of one’s life is what is important.” The choices you make everyday concerning your body have a great impact on the quality of your life — not only now, but down the road, too.
So, it is vital that in order to live longer, one needs to practice good hygiene, use a safe water supply, watch what you eat, stay physically active and last, get enough sleep.
Regardless of how old you are, it is imperative to stay in good shape.
Recent research in America shows the following:
- 40-60 percent are sedentary (figures may vary) — that is, they don’t move unless they have to.
- 30 percent are sporadic — they have the best of intentions and exercise when they get a chance, but it’s not often or consistent enough.
- 10 percent are in balance.
According to one survey, the most sedentary groups in the United States were older adolescents and adults aged 60 years, and they spent about 60% of their waking time in sedentary pursuits.
Consider this:
Many today just do not exercise enough. So, why is exercise important?
Because staying active can help you to:
- Sleep better
- Help mobility
- Maintain your bone and muscle strength
- Maintain proper weight
- Lower the risk of depression
- Lower the possibility of premature death
IF YOU REALLY WANT TO LOSE SOMETHING in your body that is causing you a great deal of stress and many of your health problems, you want to lose fat. Most people today are very confused about fat. Where does that fat come from and how does it build and grow in our body?
Most of the fat in your body is intramuscular fat: fat that has grown and will continue to grow through muscle disuse. Many today are simply not moving enough. We are eating much less today than we did 50 years ago, and yet body fat is off the chart.
To think about:
THE OLD ADAGE IS TRUE: USE IT, OR LOSE IT. What few people understand is that when you lose your strength, it is replaced with fat. Your metabolism is retarded, and the calories and fat you eat that normally would be burned up is now stored in your body. Your body was designed to be the best fat-burning machines ever created, but we are turning them into fat-storing machines. The only way to turn a fat-storing machine back into a fat-burning machine is to give the body the strength it demands. When you maintain your strength, you maintain a high percentage of lean muscle mass and a low percentage of body fat. Your metabolism rises to the level it requires and you turn your body from a fat-storing machine into a fat-burning machine.
If you do not stay physically active, you are more likely to:
- Suffer from Heart ailments
- Suffer from type 2 diabetes
- Have high blood pressure
- Have high cholesterol
- Suffer from a stroke
Because exercise is so often prescribed and talked about in the two to three times a week scenario, we constantly hear that one must keep their heart rate up for a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes. This is correct —assuming you’re exercising two to three times per week. Most people do not understand that if you increase the frequency: or how often you exercise your heart, you can decrease the time necessary to accomplish cardiovascular fitness.
You can dramatically change the quality of your life, avoid dieting, and prevent disease and distress. You can get your strength back, eliminate most back pain, and reverse osteoporosis. You can dramatically increase your strength and be ultimately more productive at work and at play. You can play a significant role in lowering health care costs, if not for our generation then for our children.
In order to do so you must give your body the exercise it demands. Choose an activity that is fun. A general guide to consider when exercising is an activity that makes you sweat. If you want to do an exercise that is more vigorous, choose one that makes it hard for you to carry on a conversation. Turn what has become a fat-storing machine into a fat-burning machine.
